Welcome to CTP News, the monthly newsletter of the Cuba Transition Project (CTP) at the University of Miami's Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies (ICCAS). The CTP is funded by a grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

 

IRAN/CUBA SEMINAR

The Anti-Defamation League, in association with the University of Miami’s Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies (ICCAS), the Center for Hemispheric Policy, and the Sue and Leonard Miller Center for Contemporary Judaic Studies will host a panel discussion, The Influence of Iran in Latin America: The Venezuelan and Cuban Connection.

Panelists include:

Carlos Alberto Montaner, renowned journalist; Patrick Clawson, Deputy Director for research at the Washington Institute for Near East Policy and author of Eternal Iran: Continuity and Chaos; and José Azel, Senior Research Associate at ICCAS.

The discussion will be moderated by Jaime Suchlicki, Director, ICCAS.

DISTINGUISHED VISITORS

ICCAS recently hosted the visits of Trinidad Jimenez, Head, International Department, Spanish Foreign Ministry; Daniel Parfait, Director, Latin America and the Caribbean, France Foreign Ministry; and Per Norstrom, Director, Department of the Americas, Swedish Foreign Ministry. These important foreign dignitaries were briefed about events in Cuba and prospects for future change.

CUBA CONFERENCE CALL

On Tuesday February 26th, the Cuba Business Roundtable held its first telephone Cuba Conference Call (CCC) with a timely analysis of recent Cuban events by Drs. Jaime Suchlicki, Brian Latell, Andy Gomez, and José Azel of the University of Miami’s Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies. If you were unable to participate in this conference call, the audio is now available on our website, please click here. The Cuba Conference Call will be offered quarterly by ICCAS.
