Welcome to CTP News, the monthly newsletter of the Cuba Transition Project (CTP) at the University of Miami's Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies (ICCAS). The CTP is funded by a grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

 

CTP TO HOST SEMINAR IN BUCHAREST

The CTP, in association with The Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes in Romania, will host a seminar, "Cuba Under Raul: Domestic and Foreign Policies," in Bucharest, Romania on May 28, 2009. The seminar will have Secretary Carlos Gutierrez, Ambassador Luis Lauredo, and The Honorable Marius Oprea, Advisor to the Romanian Foreign Minister, as main speakers. JUAN O. TAMAYO JOINS ICCAS

ICCAS is delighted to announce that Juan O. Tamayo, former Foreign Editor and Chief of Correspondents at The Miami Herald, has joined the Institute as a Research Associate.

Tamayo was The Herald’s correspondent in charge of Cuba coverage from 1995 to 2000, during which time he wrote hundreds of stories on Cuba. At ICCAS Tamayo will be responsible for a new monthly, electronic publication, “Cuba Observer,” and will participate in the research and activities of the Institute.


 

ENFOQUE ECONOMICO

The fourth issue of Enfoque Economico, "Desempeño y estructura de las ventas agrícolas estadounidenses a Cuba," CTP's monthly short, analytical reports written by Prof. Mario Gonzalez-Corzo, was sent recently to a list of Cuban dissident and government economists in the island.

CUBAN AFFAIRS JOURNAL
