Welcome to CTP News, the monthly newsletter of the Cuba Transition Project (CTP) at the University of Miami's Institute for Cuban and Cuban-American Studies (ICCAS). The CTP is funded by a grant from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID).

 

CUBA SEMINAR HELD IN BUCHAREST

The CTP, in association with The Institute for the Investigation of Communist Crimes in Romania, hosted a very successful seminar, "Cuba Under Raul: Domestic and Foreign Policies," in Bucharest, Romania on May 28, 2009. The objectives of the seminar were to discuss the current situation in Cuba and to bring together European NGOs dealing with Cuba to coordinate activities and programs. ENFOQUE ECONOMICO

The fifth issue of Enfoque Economico, "Cuba: ¿Hacia una 'cultura del agua'?" CTP's monthly short, analytical reports written by ICCAS Research Associate Mario Gonzalez-Corzo, was sent recently to a list of Cuban dissident and government economists in the island as well as to the CTP electronic Cuba list. This and previous issues of Enfoque Economico can be seen in the CTP website.

 

CTP PUBLICATIONS


Two new issues of Cuba Focus, "Fidel Plays the Race Card," click here to view, and "U.S. Now Has Zero Tolerance for Cuban Spies," click here to view, are available at the CTP website. A new issue of Cuba Facts, "Cuba: Hard Currency Debt, 2008," click here to view, is also available.


CTP WEBSITE

All publications of the CTP in Spanish and English can be viewed in our website, http://ctp.iccas.miami.edu/main.htm. The website is now receiving about one million hits per year, many from the island.

 

CUBAN AFFAIRS JOURNAL

The next issue of Cuban Affairs, the quarterly electronic journal of ICCAS, will include important and timely articles, such as "Castro, Drug Trafficking and U.S.-Cuban Relations," by Rensselaer Lee.

Book reviews and a chronology of recent events in Cuba will also be included.
